Vigil is reaching out further and further and I’m trotting along behind it doing whatever is asked!
This past week we were invited to Capital Caring Health in Falls Church, VA. This large not-for-profit health care group, serving the greater Washington, DC, metropolitan area, is seeking to make their good, better… and then move forward to BEST!
Under the extraordinary leadership of CEO Tom Koutsoumpas, this is a happening thing! With a plan to gain greater consistency and quality in their vigil program for Hospice volunteers, we spent the day last Tuesday bringing inspiration to their team. Truthfully, it was inspiring in both directions. Their leadership is so passionate about their programs that it was easy to inspire them. Vigil stories, poems and sharing how volunteers are best trained, assigned and supported carried meaningful messages. Following the presentation, there was a lot of buzz and enthusiasm; the sharing of and sparking ideas for program quality improvements and expansions was the visible proof.
What enthusiastic, committed individuals are leading these programs! Passion for the work and commitment to the best care possible of both patients and volunteers was fully evident. As I am writing this on Super Bowl Sunday, I’ll simply say: They “caught the ball”; I can’t wait to see how far they run with it!

And, as a Post Script, I’m delighted to share one of the notes of appreciation I received following my visit:
Dear Pam – Thank you so much for the beautiful Vigil website post about your time at Capital Caring Health! Please know we have also received many wonderful compliments for you from our staff and volunteers. You truly helped take the spark and make it into a flame of inspiration for us to strengthen our Vigil program! We very much would love to have you visit with our team again later this year – to help the flame grow into a bonfire!
